Forgive and Forget

I found the scene that we watched today very interesting and amusing. My favorite part was when the guy who's wife has ran away with the actor encounters his wife and the man , I felt like the director did a fantastic job of portraying the predictability  of human actions. I feel like he was trying to tell the audience how foolish we are for love and how blinded we are to peoples actions. I feel like thats a great portrayal of what life really is, when you are in the situation the people around you see all the stupid mistakes you are making but you don't see them yourself. I also liked how he showed that you cant escape death. No matter how much you think you have fooled it  , you are under a misconception.

  1. I'm amused that a woman liked the scene that is so misogynistic. Bergman married like 5 times and had children by 7 women. At the time he made the SS, he was going through a divorce, and his anger against women bleeds through, I think.

Your point about us not seeing that which is obvious to all others is a really astute observation. It reminds me of how everyone in the class knows that you are a total loser as an attendance taker, but you think you're great, and I keep believing you'll get better. Meanwhile, the rest of the class is laughing at us both. You should have seen Valerie rolling her eyes the last time I reminded you to take attendance. After class, she whispered to me, "Bennett, when will you realize, the girl is hopeless?"

But, back to the film. Brilliant analysis. I hold your arm up.... you're the champ!

  2. BUT! MR.BENNNETT- she IS hopeless!
    ha!

Otherwise, I really DO agree with what you're saying Diana. That's how I saw it too, we are all such fools; we forgive and forget; we live.

  3. Valerie your just jealous because your not the attendance monitor and Mr.Bennett I don't think the director was just depicting woman in that scene but rather all humans and how we let our emotions get the better of us at times and forget all rational thought.

  4. I never saw this comment. I like it for two reasons, one, because you make a good point, and two, because you chose to ignore my stupidity and simply continue your astute analysis of the film.
